Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)

What is the specific service we offer? What is this program?

AASL has as one of its core functions provision of training to CSOs and smaller NGOS in the area of monitoring and Evaluation and impact assessment of community dev projects. For CSOs and the community people to realize that the implemented project is on course to achieve its objectives and desired impact on the community, it can only be achieved when they are trained to be able to monitor these projects, evaluate them and assess their impact on the community. NGOs are also equipped to know what achievable targets they can set that can bring about a meaningful impact from implementing the project.

Why do we give priority to this service?

ASSL has knowledge sharing as one of their partnership strategies.  Hence in conforming to our strategy of knowledge sharing, we conduct monitoring and evaluation training for staff of various CSO institutions as M&E is one of the core functions in their everyday work. irrespective of past experiences M&E is extremely important as Most staff had been used to working on projects that have tangible outputs, our training seeks to expose trainees to addressing scenarios that have projects that have no immediate tangible outputs or outcomes, trainees are also taught on how indicators can be developed for such projects.

What are the key components of the service?

The training had four main objectives:
• To improve participant’s capacity to understand different concepts of M&E and what roles they play in the project cycle management result chain management.
• To improve capacity to work with partners & how these partners can improve in monitoring of NGOs .work
• To learn new tools for M&E and improve skills and capacity to train other partners and stakeholders
• To improve knowledge on impact assessment and to increase relevance to project implementation and training activities.

Approach to M&E and Impact Assessment

• AA SL’s approach is inclusive and participatory.
• We introduce concept and allow participants to share their experience on the issue.
• We analyze what went right or wrong and the challenges.
• We bring to the table life experiences and examples   for participant  rebuild their own scenarios;

Our program its analyses are based on the everyday development project within their communities and uses simple M&E indicators to which they are familiar with.

Our method is interactive allowing CSOs/NGO and community groups to debate issues concerning the project undertaken, identify further tools they can use to evaluate the project.
